Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur l’attaque
contre un camp de la MINUSMA à Aguelhok, dans la région de Kidal
Le Secrétaire général condamne dans les termes les plus forts l’attaque complexe orchestrée aujourd’hui par des éléments armés contre le camp de la MINUSMA à Aguelhok dans la région de Kidal. Suite à cette attaque quatre Casques bleus du contingent tchadien ont été tués et 19 autres ont été blessés. Il salue le courage et la bravoure des Casques bleus qui ont vigoureusement repoussé l’attaque.
Le Secrétaire général présente ses sincères condoléances au Gouvernement et au peuple tchadien et offre sa profonde sympathie aux familles et proches des victimes. Il souhaite un prompt rétablissement aux blessés.
Le Secrétaire général rappelle que les attaques visant les Casques bleus peuvent constituer des crimes de guerre au regard du droit international et que leurs auteurs sont passibles de poursuites. Il exhorte les autorités maliennes à déployer tous les efforts possibles afin d’identifier et de traduire rapidement en justice les auteurs de cette attaque odieuse.
Le Secrétaire général réaffirme la solidarité des Nations Unies avec le peuple et le Gouvernement de la République du Mali dans leur quête de paix.

Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General
on the attack against a UN camp in Aguelhok, Kidal region, in Mali
The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the complex attack undertaken today by armed elements, against the camp of the UN Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Aguelhok, Kidal region. As a result of the attack four peacekeepers from the Chadian Contingent were killed and 19 others were injured. He commends the courage and bravery of the peacekeepers who robustly repelled the attack.
The Secretary-General conveys his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Chad and extends his profound sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims. He wishes a swift recovery to the injured.
The Secretary-General recalls that attacks targeting peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law and that sanctions can be applied against those responsible. He calls on the Malian authorities to spare no effort in identifying and promptly holding to account the perpetrators of this heinous attack.
The Secretary-General reiterates the solidarity of the United Nations with the people and Government of the Republic of Mali in their quest for peace.
