Mozambique: Islamist militants continue to mount daring attacks (see the latest edition of CrisisWatch) in northern Cabo Delgado province, where deadly clashes erupted last week between government forces and insurgents who seized Macomia, the third district capital attacked since mid-March. Crisis Group expert Piers Pigou says after two and a half years of insurgency, which has led to 210,000 internally displaced people, Mozambique has now acknowledged it cannot deal with this challenge alone. After the country last month turned to the regional bloc Southern African Development Community (SADC) for assistance, talks with South Africa over different military options are reportedly underway.
