Prime Minister of Algeria, Abdelmalek Sellal, voiced his country’s support to a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people under the supervision of the United Nations, reaffirming that Algeria’s position towards the decolonization process in Western Sahara remains “consistent and clear.”
“The suffering of the Saharawi people has gone on too long. My country’s position over the issue is clear and consistent. We support the process for the organization of a referendum on self-determination under the aegis of the United Nations, and we hope it will be brought to completion,” Algerian PM said in an interview with Afrique Asie weekly (December issue), reported by Algerian Press Service (APS).
“We are still committed to international legality for the settlement of the conflict between the Saharawi people and the Kingdom of Morocco,” stated Sellal.
He went on saying that Algeria “will spare no effort and will bring its contribution, in the respect of international legality, to settling this (Africa’s) last decolonization issue.”
