Butembo: more than 20 civilians murdered by armed men in 2 months

At least 24 civilians have been murdered since last June by armed men in the town of Butembo (North Kivu), according to the Monitoring Report of the Human Rights Network (REDHO).

This document was made public on Tuesday 13 August in Butembo.

John Kameta, president of the citizens’ structure, noted that the last case was the last case last night with the murder of a human rights defender in the city.

Faced with the growing insecurity in the city of Butembo, civil society in the municipality of Bulengera calls on the authorities to develop new strategies to deal with it.

“Civil society, the hardcore forces of Bulengera, reminds the authorities of the city of Butembo that the security of the people and their property remains a supreme need for our city. She asks them to develop new strategies to make security a reality,” said Kameta.

It also required serious investigations to identify the perpetrators of the murder within an acceptable time frame.

John Kameta also called on the population to collaborate with the urban authorities.
