A delegation from the European Union Election Observation Mission exchanged on Monday 20 December in Kinshasa with CENI President Denis Kadima. Led by MEP Malin BJ-RK, the delegation informed Denis Kadima of the deployment of electoral observers in all the provinces of the DRC.
“We are a team of experts, who have been here since 6 November. There is a team of long-term observers. 42 will be deployed in the coming days and we will have at the time of the elections, closer to the elections, which are twelve, of the observers who are short-term observers,” said Malin BJRK.
In her view, a delegation of seven MEPs was also expected in Kinshasa.
There will also be electoral and political experts, as well as media working on the ground in Kinshasa but who will also travel to the various regions.
She also referred to “the support of the diplomatic corps, European embassies and other staff, who will also be among the observers on election day. On election day, it is expected that there may be about eighty-one hundred observers and observers.”
Malin BJ-RK thanked CENI for its invitation to support and observe the elections, (for) “so that they are practical, inclusive and transparent (…). But the CENI is a key player in ensuring that the electoral process takes place in better conditions, she said. He added: ‘We very much appreciate the dialogue with CENI’.
