Democratic Republic of the Congo: resumption of clashes between local and M23 armed groups in Masisi

Fighting resumed early on Thursday, 5 October, on two front lines in Masisi territory (North Kivu), between local armed groups and M23 rebels.

According to local sources, attacks were launched again at a very early stage in the Nturo-Kilolirwe and Ruvunda region of the Bashali Kahembe group.

However, another forehead resumed on the Kibarizo axis, in the Bashali Mokoto.

Already on Wednesday, heavy clashes took place in the evening towards Kibarizo, Kirumbu and Busumba, after M23 rebels received reinforcements from Bwiza, several sources say.

For the time being, it is difficult to say precisely who controls what between these two parties.

But some sources report that local armed groups retain control of Nturo-Kilolirwe, Kirumbu, Busumba and Kibarizo.

However, they were reportedly repulsed by the M23 rebels in Burungu and Rushebeshe, which they had been in control since Wednesday morning.

The city of Kitshanga remains calm this Thursday morning, according to the same sources.
