Unfolding events in Libya and the military deployment in Ras Jedir at the Tunisia-Libya border were the centrepiece of a Crisis Response Unit meeting chaired, Sunday, by interim Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa.
National Defence Minister Ghazi Jribi said, following a visit to the border crossing of Ras Jedir, the crossing point is now operational and has been endowed with an advanced system to secure borders, ward off terrorist attacks and stamp out smuggling, said a Prime Ministry press release.
A string of measures were taken at the meeting and practical plans green-lighted to increase vigilance at the border crossing of Ras Jedir and beef up the military on the border with Libya, the Ministry pointed out.
Reporting on the recent meeting of Libya neighbours to which Sudan played host, Foreign Minister Mongi Hamdi said emphasis was placed on the need for these countries to join efforts to combat terrorism.
Likewise, the Crisis Response Unit focused on the security situation in Tunisia and most notably the fight against terrorism and smuggling.
It lauded, in this vein, the security plans developed to this end and the efforts exerted by security forces and the National Army, added the press release.
